Suspension of Volunteers Without a Valid Disclosure Check (DBS)

It is a requirement that all relevant adults have a current, valid DBS.

HQ have advised they will shortly implement the mandatory suspension of adults who do not.

The volunteer, their line manager, relevant Commissioner and local Appointment Secretary will be alerted by email three months before their DBS is due to expire. The line manager will be able to find the volunteer in Atlantic Data to begin the ID checking process.

Further reminders will be sent at monthly intervals until a DBS application has been submitted, the volunteer’s role is closed or the DBS expires.
It is important that all volunteers have a valid email address on Compass so that these reminders are not missed.
Should a DBS reach the point of expiring, the volunteer will then have 30 days to submit an application before the Commissioner will be informed that the volunteer must be suspended from any involvement with Scouting.

If a member is suspended DBS they will either need to complete a DBS application or have their role ended on Compass.
If the volunteer does complete a disclosure check, having previously been suspended, they may be able to resume their role once they have completed the National Vetting Process.
