Jumping forward for Squirrels in first sleepover in Wimbledon and Wandle

This past weekend, we were thrilled to hold the first squirrel sleepover in the District, which also happens to coincide with the squirrel section’s 5th Birthday. This marks the first ever Squirrel sleepover event held in Wimbledon and Wandle giving our youngest members their first opportunity to experience the adventure of an overnight event.  The Squirrels absolutely loved their first experience and got to do lots of exciting activities such as soft archery and soft axe throwing, arts and crafts and the highlight of many camps, a campfire and s’mores!

Squirrels, for young people aged 4-6, were introduced by Scouts after the pandemic. Wimbledon and Wandle’s first Drey opened at 1st Merton Park in September 2022. The event formed part of the ongoing commitment of Scouts mission to create a Place to Belong for all of our young people and volunteers. We were also thrilled to be able to present all of the squirrels with their Nights Away stage 1 activity badge, which, until now was only achieved by Beaver Scouts and above.
