Recognising Dedicated Service in Merton Park

Date: 15th Oct 2025 Author: Jonny Reeks

At a recent meeting of the 1st Merton Park Scout Group Trustee Board, Group Lead Volunteer Jonny Reeks had the pleasure of presenting two Scouting awards to long-serving members of the Group team.

Emma Maddison, outgoing Group Chair, was awarded The Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service.
Emma has been a key part of the Group’s leadership over recent years, providing calm, steady guidance through several changes in leadership and ensuring that young people in Merton Park continued to have high-quality Scouting experiences. Her commitment doesn’t stop there — Emma has now stepped into the role of Unit Team Leader for Merton Park Explorer Unit, continuing her dedication to supporting young people’s development.

John Garrett received his 5 Year Long Service Award, recognising his significant contribution as Group Treasurer and Trustee.
John’s careful stewardship of the Group’s finances helped maintain stability and supported countless activities and fundraising events, including the ever-popular Jumble Sales. Though he stepped down as Treasurer earlier this year, John continues to serve as a valued Trustee, ensuring the Group remains on a strong footing.

Congratulations to both Emma and John, and thank you for your ongoing commitment to Scouting in Merton Park and across the Wimbledon and Wandle District.
