The Brian Whalebone Unsung Hero Award

The Brian Whalebone Unsung Hero Award

Brain Whalebone was a Scouter in Merton for many years, carrying out many different roles and tasks but almost always in the background. He never made a fuss, never sought praise or reward. He was someone who lived his life by the Scout Law & Promise. When Brian passed away in 2020, he left a gap in the District that can never be filled. He is deeply missed by all in Wimbledon & Wandle.

In 2021, a new award was created to recognise fellow ‘unsung heroes’ who go about or have gone about their Scouting in the District with the minimum of fuss, never looking for praise or reward – just simply doing their best.

Congratulations to the following leaders who have been recipients of The Brian Whalebone Unsung Hero Award:

Lesley Bixby

Gary Baker

Jean Brumwell

Their hard work, dedication and time spent Scouting for the benefit of the young people in Wimbledon & Wandle is great appreciated.

Thank you!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
