The Jack Petchey Award Scheme

About Jack Petchey and the award scheme

Jack Petchey was a businessman and philanthropist. He ran a car sales and hire business, invested wisely and amassed a fortune.

He set up the Jack Petchey Foundation which runs an award scheme to celebrate the achievements of young people in Essex and Greater London. We are lucky enough to be able to nominate 24 young people for grants each year.

In Wimbledon and Wandle, and more widely Greater London South West, we are proud to be a part of this award scheme and we are always on the look out for nominations to ensure that as many young people and adult volunteers get to benefit!

The awards

The youth award

Any young person aged 11+ is eligible (Scouts and Explorers).

The grant is currently £300 and can be used for an activity or equipment to benefit their Section. Team Leaders can nominate their young people using a simple form.

Please note:

  • Full details of costs must be shown
  • The total cost of the activity or equipment must be greater than £300
  • 2 nominations for expensive equipment or a big activity may be submitted, giving a total of £600 to offset the cost
  • The young person should be involved in the decision as to how the grant is spent
  • All receipts must be kept for audit purposes
  • A young person may only receive one award. If they have one as a Scout they cannot have another as an Explorer
  • Award winners are expected to attend a presentation in the autumn

The adult volunteer award

The Jack Petchey Foundation recognises that young people achieve their potential because they are led by exceptional adult volunteers.

The Leader Award scheme is for adults whose primary role is working with Scouts or Explorers.

Grants of up to £1000 can be awarded to benefit the Scouts and Explorers.

We can put 3 people a year forward for the Leader Awards.
